 Pastor's Perspective

Jeremiah 29:13 “Ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.”  The Hebrews were in captivity in a foreign land...Babylon.  Some among them had aroused false hopes of returning soon to Jerusalem.  Jeremiah urged them to patience and to prayer.  Through prayer God could be found “by the rivers of Babylon” (see Psalm 137).  God said, “I will listen to you...when you seek me with all your heart” .  Prayer here is more than words; it is the whole heart reaching out to God.  Prayer has been defined as talking to God.  All petitions and supplications directed to heaven do not qualify as prayer.

They may seem to be ardent enough and framed in the proper words, but rise no higher than the ceiling.  Unless commitment is present, words addressed to God are not real prayer.  Real prayer assumes commitment to Christ and the gospel.  When full commitment undergirds prayer, our hearts reach out to God and our souls are poured out to give clarity to the real desires of the heart.

Should that be, the apostle Paul assures us that “the Spirit helps us in our weakness for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with sighs too deep for words.  And He who searches the hearts of men knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.”Romans 8:26 27.

No one is hopeless, whose hope is God.  Change your life in 2010.!
